This course sets out to cover parts of a new discipline, often called “information literacy”. Reading and working on Wikipedia is, among other things, an intensive class in information literacy topics.

The point of the course is to replace uninformed skepticism about “what you read online”, by a more skilled and potentially more productive attitude. The intention is that the material should allow you in future to evaluate and check what you are reading in many places, not just Wikipedia. The skills are also key to contributing to Wikipedia, and should be helpful quite generally in research and writing.
